China attestation refers to the attestation or certification of a document by a China Appointed Attesting Officer (also known as a CAAO).
A CAAO is a qualified Hong Kong lawyer who has been appointed by the Ministry of Justice of the People’s Republic of China. Unlike Notary Publics, a CAAO is authorised to attest and certify acts, matters, and documents of legal significance occurring in or originating from Hong Kong. After a CAAO has attested a Hong Kong document, it will be legally recognised for use in Mainland China.
Witnessing/Certifying by an Australian Legal Practitioner
We can provide certified copies of original documents that are Australian in origin, or are intended for use in Australia, or have been requested by an Australian Federal, State or Local Government authority.
On single-page documents, we use a stamp which has the following wording for such certified copies: “This is a true copy of the original as sighted by me”. On documents with more than 1 page, our stamp has the following wording: “I certify this and the following [number of pages] pages to be a true copy of the original as sighted by me” on the first page and initials on all other pages.
Should you require alternative wording, this may also be arranged upon request.
